First Team | Match Report | Sacachispas

January 27, 2022

Well it wasn't to be for the boys in their league cup semi final match last night!! We were probably unfortunate to come up against the favourites but we can still be proud of the progress and can learn a lot from the defeat.

We started the game very well and took an early lead with a terrific goal from Finlay Shearer on the transition.

The first half we defended magnificently with Dylan Fleming making a few fine saves and players working tirelessly and putting their bodies in front of everything. We also carried a bit of luck with a couple of efforts from Sacachispas hitting the framework before losing an equalising goal just before half time. We went into the break level at 1 each.

At half time the chat was to retain the ball better and to hit with more numbers and pace on the transition.

The second half we continued to work hard, in particular out of possession, but we lost a few disappointing goals from our own build up play. At 4-1 we tried to get back into the game and used the fly GK but struggled to make full use of this through a high press from Sacas. During this process and chasing the game we lost a 5th goal but managed to bring a consolation goal back with a minute to go through another fine Shearer strike.

I cannot fault the players in terms of their effort during the game and I was delighted with how the boys dealt with the physical side of the game, a game that had around 16 or 17 fouls but neither team making the 6th foul in each half to award a 10m penalty. I think that shows how far we have come from the first game.

Our objective at the start of this season was to learn from the transition from youth to adult and to improve from playing more experienced players and teams. The boys will certainly learn from this match and we collectively agreed the areas where we need to improve afterwards.

We now have a friendly match versus Edinburgh Deaf Futsal on Friday evening and have areas to work on and improve to prepare for our league campaign.

Thanks to Sacachispas for their encouraging words after the match. We wish you good luck in the final and for the rest of their league campaign.
