First Team | Match Report | University of Edinburgh A

December 2, 2021

It was the final match of our League Cup group and we knew going into the match that a win against the University or Edinburgh A side would place us in a good position for a semi final place.

We had a few players out and had to call on coach Kenny Ford to make his first team debut.

We started slow and in the first 10 minutes or so both sides were checking each other out and trying to establish how each other played.

After the first 10 minutes we gradually started to take control of the game and deservedly took a 2 goal lead before losing a sloppy late goal from a corner just before half time.

At half time we spoke to the boys about increase the intensity and to be better on the ball.

Second half the boys were excellent and done exactly what we asked of them. We dictated most of the 2nd half and created some fantastic goal scoring opportunities throughout. A well worked free kick saw Leon make it 3-1 and we were unlucky when we hit the post with a tremendous strike from Scott Henry but lost a slack goal on the transition to let Edinburgh Uni back into the game at 3-2. A reminder of how quickly futsal can change.

The gap didn't remain at 1 for long though and we extended our lead with 2 quickfire goals to make it 5-2. We were unlucky not to extend that lead before full time with their keeper making some fine saves and us hitting the woodwork again.

Other than 2 lapses in concentration, from a set play and a transition, we have to be delighted with how the team dealt with Edinburgh Uni's different styles of play and tactics and identified how to overcome them. A terrific performance all round.

With Wattcell losing to Edinsol it confirmed our place in the semi final where we will face the University of Edinburgh B team. We will update you of dates when we have them.
